After an intense game, Mississippi State took an impressive 77-72 victory against the Tennessee volunteers knocking off a top five team. With this leaving the Bulldogs' conference record at 1-1, the rest of the season is a mystery.

Although every player kept their foot on the gas until the clock hit 00:00 three exceptional players should be noted for their hard work. These Bulldogs earned their recognition as MVPs of the game.

First, Tolu smith made his first starting appearance after returning from his injury and  racked up 23 points, four rebounds, and an assist. One notable moment was at the 14.7 second mark, the game was tied 72-72. This tie was broken with a quick shot followed by a free throw.

Smith made it obvious that his injury still bothered him and at the end of the first half, seemed to be in pain. However, the halftime break game him the perfect amount of time to recoup and get ready to dominate in the second half. 

Alongside Smith, D.J. Jeffries was an elite defender against the Volunteers. With four points, six rebounds, and two assists, Jeffries did everything in his power to put up a fight against the Vols.

The last player to point out is freshman Josh Hubbard. Hubbard put up 25 points and two rebounds, being the first freshman of the season to put up 25 points in a game. this Mississippi native showed what he had to offer as a rookie to the team during his second conference game of his college career.
