Mississippi State Women's Basketball Builds Upon 2023 Class With All-SEC Standout
Mississippi State women's basketball grew stronger this week when the Bulldogs announced they were officially signing All-SEC standout Erynn Barnum from Arkansas for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Barnum was ranked as the No. 21 transfer recruit in the country by ESPN and heads to Starkville with about as much momentum as one could wish for after a career season with the Razorbacks.
Recently named to the All-SEC Second Team after she played and started in all 37 games during the 2022-23 season, she posted career-highs in points scored (15.0), rebounds (6.5), assists (66), blocked shots (38) and steals (47).
She put up a single-game career-high 37 points against Ole Miss back in January off of 13 field goals, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
That was the same game in which she recorded her 500th career rebound, surpassing 1,000 career points at Georgia. She finished out with 16 points and seven boards in that contest against the Bulldogs of Athens.
As many are, MSU head coach Sam Purcell could not be more excited about the addition of Barnum.
"Is it November yet? Man, our team was already going to be good, but with the addition of Erynn, we are going to be special," Purcell said in a release.
"Adding Erynn to our team gives us an already proven SEC player who can come in on day one and contribute at a high level. She led Arkansas in scoring last season and was on the ALL-SEC Second Team. I love having a team that is hard to guard and I love coaching a team full of positionless players, and Erynn is that type of player. She's a young woman that fans will see grab a rebound and then take it coast-to-coast with her speed, but she can also spot up and score on the perimeter or post up on the block and get a bucket. Erynn's also the third all-conference transfer from the portal that we've signed this off-season, proving that we are building something special here in the state of Mississippi and the country."
It will be interesting to see how things play out for Barnum and the Lady Bulldogs when they get back to the court for the 2023-24 season.
