Mississippi State Women's Basketball Guard Denae Carter Enters The Transfer Portal
Junior guard Denae Carter from Mississippi State women's basketball has entered the transfer portal, as she announced on social media Thursday.
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Carter was brought to Starkville by then Bulldog head coach Nikki McCray-Penson before she resigned midway through the season. Carter was a solid contributor under interim coach Doug Novak before suffering a season-ending ACL tear.
Under new head coach Sam Purcell, Carter's minutes were reduced, mostly coming off the bench during her sophomore season with the Bulldogs. During her two seasons with the Bulldogs, Carter averaged 5.0 points per game, along with 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, while shooting 49.5% from the field.
“First, I would like to give honor and glory to God for the infinite blessings throughout my journey," Carter said in her statement. "Next, I would like to thank my family for being my biggest support system.. Finally, I thank the Mississippi State coaching staff, my teammates and the Bulldog fans for being my home away from home these past two years. I appreciate all of the support I have received in Starkville and will forever cherish these memories."
“My time at Mississippi State has been a time to remember. Still I know the best is yet to come. With that being said, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. I believe God has already prepared the way, and he continues to prepare me.”
Carter becomes the sixth player from last year's Bulldog roster to exit the program. The team has been hitting the transfer portal hard, recently picking up a commitment from Seton Hall point guard Lauren Park-Lane, while Arkansas forward Erryn Barnum and Depaul guard Darrione Rogers have visited campus.
The Bulldogs have five scholarships still available. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.
