Nick Saban Gives Injury Updates Ahead Of Alabama's Matchup Against Mississippi State

Alabama head coach Nick Saban gave an update on the status of linebacker Deontae Lawson and offensive lineman Terrence Ferguson.

Mississippi State (2-2) looks to get its first SEC victory of the 2023 season against a tough Alabama Crimson Tide team (3-1) on Saturday and learned a bit more about who it will age facing when head coach Nik Saban met with the media during the week.

Saban provided status updates on linebacker Deontae Lawson and offensive lineman Terrence Ferguson.

“Both guys were unable to practice today, so that will put them in the category of very questionable,” Saban said.

Lawson is in the process of recovering from a sprained ankle, which Saban revealed in his postgame press conference Saturday. The players behind Lawson will be important if he is unable to go.

“Obviously, the depth at that position is going to become critical for us if Deontae can’t go,” Saban said earlier on. “So, we’ll keep working with those guys and try to get them ready to go this week.”

To this point in 2023, Lawson totals 26 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. Within an offensive line that has struggled at times, Ferguson has provided a good option for depth.

The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide are set to kick off at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium.
