Bain: Dak Prescott's Interception Numbers Can Be Misleading

Most fans look at a box score or end-of-year stats to determine a player's value, but often those stats can be misleading.

While it is true that stats do not lie without context, they can inflate or deflate a football player's actual ability.

Maybe a running back rushes for 1000 yards, but 800 came against teams under .500 with abysmal defenses. The final box score does not mention that.

In 2022, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had to adjust to not having his number-one target in Amari Cooper after the wideout was traded to the Browns. This caused a learning curve, and Prescott also missed over a month due to an injury that halted building chemistry with his new receivers.

Playcalling also caused the Cowboys' receivers to have less separation, which forced more balls to be thrown into heavy coverage.

However, Prescott is not blameless for his turnovers. He was often reckless with the football and tried to force the game rather than letting it come to him.

With a new play-caller and the addition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks, Prescott is set up to have a big season and potentially overcome his turnover hurdle.
