Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald Listed Among Top SEC Quarterbacks Since 2000

Two former Bulldogs quarterbacks named as some of the best of the century within the SEC.

Fox Sports recently named former Mississippi State quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald as some of the best quarterbacks in the SEC since 2000.

Prescott ranked at No. 9 on the media organization's list, with Fitzgerald right behind him at No. 10. They are one of two schools who have multiple quarterbacks named to the top-ten, with the other being Georgia.

At No. 9, Prescott played for the Bulldogs from 2011 to 2015. He helped lead the team to a 10-2 season record in 2014, including a No. 1 ranking for the first time in school history en route to an appearance in the 2014 Orange Bowl. He won the Conerly Trophy, given to the best football player in the state of Mississippi, and finished eighth in that year's Heisman Trophy voting.

At the end of his college career, Prescott finished third in SEC history in total yards and fourth in total touchdowns. He also holds 38 school records for Mississippi State. He would end up being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft, where he remains as their star quarterback.

At No. 10, Fitzgerald played for the Bulldogs from 2014 to 2018. He initially served as the backup to Prescott before eventually becoming the starter in 2016. He was known for his mobility as a quarterback, and during the 2018 season, he became the all time leader in rushing yards by an SEC quarterback in a big victory against Auburn, posting 195 yards on 28 carries.

In the 2016 Egg Bowl against rival Ole Miss, Fitzgerald recorded a total of five touchdowns (three passing and two rushing) while setting a Mississippi State single game rushing record with 258 yards in a crushing 55-20 victory.
