Around The SEC: Former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett Shining Early With Rams
There was much debate over whether or not former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett IV would be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft as one of college football's most polarizing prospects.
He certainly quieted a lot of doubters when he was taken by the Los Angeles Rams at pick No. 128 overall in the fourth round of the event, and has also gotten some preseason hype (even though it is still early).
Bennett also recently received backlash after not graduating from Georgia after five years on campus. However, the formal walk-on focuses on proving himself on the biggest stage as he prepares for training camp with the Rams. Despite leading UGA to consecutive national titles, some still doubt the 4th-round draft pick.
Bennett is expected to be the backup for veteran Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford moving forward as the Rams are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 5-12 overall, coming off a Super Bowl.
Stafford has shown to be prone to injuries in his career, and the Rams still have his favorite target and one of the NFL's best receivers in Cooper Kupp. If Stafford goes down, seeing what Bennett could do in Sean McVay's potent offense will be interesting.
