Around the SEC: Former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett Receives Flack for Not Graduating
University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett didn't graduate after leading his team in back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.
Bennet started college in 2017, and now that is it 2023, he's exited the years for college sports eligibility as he prepares to make an impact in the pros. After it was released that he indeed had not graduated from UGA after six years in college, he incurred some online "trolling" on social media.
One of the most popular tweets came from the account of former Ohio State Buckeyes signal-caller Cardale Jones.
"Buddy definitely wasn't playing school!" he posted in response to PlaymakerU's tweet about Bennet not graduating.
However, looking back to years past, Jones made a statement on twitter having a strong opinion on having to take university classes and playing football at the same time.
“Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS."
His famous tweet back in 2012 still remains popular and caused some in the media side of Bennett's situation.
Jones definitely beat Bennett academically after graduating from Ohio State in 2017. During his time as a Buckeye, Jones led the team to victory in the 2014 College Football National Championship.
Since the commonality of the two players lies in their abilities to lead their college teams to victory, it will be interesting to see if Bennett follows in Jones's footsteps by eventually graduating college.
If he doesn't, he certainly has a chance to continue his football career at the highest level for the Los Angeles Rams after he was selected by the team as the No. 128 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
