Former Mississippi State WR Taking Official Visit to Cal Over the Weekend

Since entering the transfer portal, former Mississippi State wide receiver Marquez Dortch is visiting with the California Golden Bears over the weekend.

Former Mississippi State wide receiver Marquez Dortch is taking an official visit to Cal over the weekend according to sources since he entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason.

Dortch was originally listed as a four-star recruit coming out of George County High School (Lucedale, Mississippi). He was also ranked as the No. 33 overall prospect in the nation for the Class of 2022 and was the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi in the class of 2022, according to 247 Sports.

Dortch originally committed to Bulldogs in-state rival Ole Miss, where he was being recruited as a defensive back. But his desire to play wide receiver caused him to flip his commitment to MSU.

As a freshman in 2022, Dortch saw action n in one game, where he caught one pass for one yard in the 56-7 rout of ETSU on back on Nov. 19.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this ability to play this great game that I love the most," Dortch wrote on social media when he first entered the portal. "I also want to thank the entire Mississippi State coaching staff for providing this opportunity as well as all of my teammates for believing in me."

The move came not long after the passing of late MSU head coach Mike Leach as the Bulldogs look to transition to a completely new offensive system under offensive coordinator Kevin Barbay and head coach Zach Arnett.

It will be interesting to see where Dortch ultimately lands, but there's no question he has some interest in heading to the west coast.
