Dallas Cowboys Plan To Sign Former Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott With New Timetable

The Dallas Cowboys have a potential contract extension plan for Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys are attempting to determine the possibility that quarterback Dak Prescott will have a contract extension after his current contract is up in 2024.

Although the extension is not set in stone, there seems to be a new timetable. If Prescott's contract gets extended, he will receive $59.455 million against the cap next season.

“He’s under contract now, but we’d like to do this after the season,'' said Cowboys COO Stephen Jones. "Once the season is over, we will focus on that. Dak will be our quarterback.”

There are a couple of reasons why it hasn't been officially announced whether or not Prescott will receive an extension. One main reason is that it may affect how well the team plays together for the remainder of the season.

Another reason is because owners Jerry and Stephen Jones are waiting to see how Prescott performs on the field through the rest of this year. It would make more financial sense to wait to announce the extension in case there is debate about the player's worth.

When Jerry Jones was asked whether the new deal was about Prescott's talent or paying him to keep the cap manageable, he claimed that both were reasons for the deal.
