Coming and Going: Mississippi State 2024 Offseason Roster Tracker
There's nothing official yet, but departing Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers may already have his final collegiate destination.
On Monday, 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that Washington is the likely landing spot four the four-year quarterback, who qualifies as a graduate transfer.
However, if so, don't expect a announcement in the near future. Washington is in the College Football Playoff, set to face Texas in the Sugar Bowl semifinal. The move does make sense for the Huskies, though, which runs a pass-happy offense similar to what Mike Leach used to run with the Bulldogs.
Michael Penix Jr. is a strong Heisman Trophy candidate. The redshirt senior is 23 years old, with only fifth-year player Dylan Morris and Austin Mack on the roster.
Rogers, who hails from Brandon, Miss., finished the year with 1,626 yards passing, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 60% of his passes.
He's the only quarterback in SEC history with over 1,000 career completions. Rogers has thrown for 12,315 yards, ranking second all-time in the conference, and his 94 career touchdown passes are fourth (ahead of Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Tua Tagovailoa and Bryce Young).
His 4,739 passing yards in 2021 rank third-most in SEC history. Rogers also holds the record for most passing yards by an MSU quarterback in Egg Bowl history with 1,222.
