Mississippi State DL Coach David Turner Praises Former Bulldogs Ahead of Super Bowl LVII
Having two former Bulldogs gearing up to play hard in the Super Bowl, now is a good time for the coaches involved with their development to look back and reflect on what made these men so successful.
Mississippi State defensive line coach David Turner is among those.
The look of pride beaming across the coach's face in recent interview released by the program says it all, and there's no question Turner should be proud to be a part of the journey as he coached both Chris Jones (Kansas City Chiefs) and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (Philadelphia Eagles) into two figures who are widely seen as two of the NFL's best defensive players.
"It feels good, I'm glad for those guys' success," Turner said simply.
It's an exciting thing for Bulldogs to go into the Super Bowl knowing that their former coach is heading back for another stint at State to train more future Super Bowl winners.
After coaching at Georgia Tech last season, Turner is equally looking forward to getting to work at a familiar place.
"When it was announced that I was coming back I heard from both of them so it's kind of a dad feeling and it makes you feel good."
On the regular season, Cox posted 43 total tackles (23 solo), seven sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. For the postseason, he tallies five combined tackles (two solo) and one sack. Jones finished the regular season with 44 combined tackles (30 solo), 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
With only six days left until the big game, looking at how the Bulldogs will live their legacy on the field is so encouraging to the staff, players, and others who have gone from State to Sundays.
