Mississippi State Adds Georgia Transfer Tight End
The Mississippi State offense is changing under a new coaching staff as the Bulldogs transition from the Air Raid offense, meaning that tight end is now a position sought after for the team.
They found their guy this week, adding former Georgia transfer tight end Ryland Goede. The pass-catcher announced the news via Twitter on Monday, thanking the Georgia coaching staff and his teammates.
"Those hedges, the family, that G. What started out as a childhood dream slowly turned into a reality of playing for my hometown team and winning back-to-back national championships. It was something our class said we'd do once we got here and we did it.
I am blessed to have been a part of the best tight-end room to ever play the game and have loved getting to learn from those in front of me. To all of my teammates and coaches thank you for the family y'all have been to me and the lifelong friendships that we have formed. Thank you especially to Coach Smart for blessing me with the opportunity to play for and graduate from the University in May."
Over four seasons at Georgia, Goede did not record any receiving stats and underwent shoulder surgery during his sophomore year, which sidelined him for the whole season.
In 2021, he took the field for the first time in two years as a reserve tight end in Georgia's win over UAB. He also played in wins over South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech. According to the Georgia website, as of the 2022 season, he saw action in nine of 13 games.
It will be interesting to watch how the 6-foot-6, carves out his role in Starkville with a position MSU hasn't seen utilized in years.
