Mississippi State Lands JUCO WR Commitment: What Tyson Schilling Brings to the Table
Mississippi State football has had multiple wins on the recruiting trail this offseason, most recently landing the commitment of JUCO wide receiver Tyson Schilling.
The East Los Angeles College product took to Twitter this week to announce he was headed to Starkville.
In the 11 games Schilling played in his sophomore year, he totaled 464 receiving yards with five touchdowns he caught five touchdowns, averaging 42 yards per game.
Looking into how he particularly factors into the offense, Schilling primarily lines up in the slot position -- the same one that formerly occupied by long-tenured wide receiver Austin Williams on the field at MSU.
This is one of the holes on the offense that needs to be filled now that Williams has graduated, and Schilling could be just the man for the job.
When given the opportunity as a pass-catcher, he has shown the after-the-catch speed to be desired that he possesses, along with his sneaky power and athleticism at the position.
Though he's expected to join the team as a preferred walk-on to start out, look for him to potentially surprise and continue that production that Williams had at slot receiver.
According to Rivals, there were scholarship offers for Schilling from three FCS programs (Morehead State, Presbyterian and Valparaiso).
Schilling also stated on Twitter that he had drawn interest from both Western Kentucky and USC as well.
