MVP Of The Game, Week 1: Mississippi State RB Jo'Quavious 'Woody' Marks

Looking into which Mississippi State football player stood out most in the team's 48-7 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

While quite a few of the offensive players really stood out for Mississippi State in the first week of the 2023 college football season as the Bulldogs topped the Southeastern Louisiana Lions

Running back Jo'Quavious Marks, known to team and fans as "Woody", was a consistent contributor from the beginning. He started the game by putting up the first offensive play of the season, a 5-yard run against Southeastern Lousiana.

By the end of the first half, Marks had recorded 42 rush yards and one touchdown with 59 receiving yards. His momentum did not let up during the second half, with one of his biggest moments coming in the third quarter as Marks broke out with a huge 37-yard gain and racked up 127 rushing yards and 57 receiving yards for the game.

Of the 6 touchdowns scored in the game, 2 of them came from Marks, tying freshman Creed Whitmore for most touchdowns by an individual player in the contest.

Between this and the pure versatility Marks has shown going into a new scheme, he's worthy of the title of the game's most valuable player.
