Five Things to Know About Mississippi State WR Creed Whittemore

What to know about one of Mississippi State football's newest Bulldogs.

Mississippi State has been solid on the recruiting trail as of late, and the Class of 2023 was no exception. Among those are a few four-star prospects, wide receiver Creed Whittemore is one of the few.

Here's a look into five things to know about one of the Bulldogs top players.

1. Grew up in a football-oriented family.

Creed Whittemore grew up in Gainesville, Florida, playing ball from a young age. Having an older brother just a few years apart from Creed was an inspiration for his playing.

Creed quickly followed the footsteps of becoming a star like his brother Trent Whittemore. Creed won the Scot Brantley Trophy for his high school just like his brother. Not only did he have an amazing season after season in high school but he also played the game he loved most under his dad, Mark Whittemore. It is clear this is football orientated family not only has skill but dedication as well.

2. Originally played as a quarterback.

Before becoming a wide receiver, Creed played quarterback effectively at the high school level. As a senior he passed 2,693 yards with 35 touch downs and rushed 1,285 and 17 touch downs. Whittemore lead Buchholz High School with a 10-3 record in the 2022 season. During his junior year, he was named the Gainesville Sun Big School Offensive Player of The Year after passing for more than 2,100 yards and rushing 760 on the ground. That year he helped with Buchholz high school with the record of 12-2.

3. Committed to the University of Florida before Mississippi State.

Early on in May of 2022, Creed committed to the University of Florida in hopes to play along the side of his brother. Trent is currently a sophomore wide receiver for the Gators and Creed would have once again followed in his footsteps. It wasn't until the middle of October that Creed de-committed from the University of Florida and announced his commitment to MSU.

4. Works consistently in his off time.

While off from the football season Creed competes with the track and field team. Like football Creed is very successful in track. In his junior year of high school he won a district title in the 100-meter dash and had a personal best of 10.85. Along with that he also competed in long jump and played a little bit of basketball. Over all Creed is a multi-skilled athlete which makes him highly competitive.

5. Reads the field and finds opportunity of play.

Creed his a wide skillset with plenty of tools that set him up for success as a player on the field. He has very fluid movement patterns and top-end speed, which track helped with. On the field, he has next level ability to change directions and make people miss in the open field.

Creed always seems to be able to find holes and creases in a defense, getting himself out of trouble with little cuts and start-stop burst. All of this couples well with his intangibles as a player with strong work ethic and coach ability.
