Will Rogers Calls Head Coach Zach Arnett The 'Perfect Guy' For Mississippi State

Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers is excited for the Zach Arnett era at Mississippi State.

Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers spoke very highly of his new head coach, Zach Arnett, during a press conference at SEC Media Days this week.

Rogers, who has been with the football program since the 2020 season, was first coached by Arnett in the ReliaQuest Bowl back in January, with Arnett taking the reins as head coach after the sudden passing of Mike Leach in December of 2022.

Since the bowl game, Arnett has completely overhauled the coaching staff and according to Rogers, has done a good job at being himself. Rogers emphasized how important that is for players like him and described Arnett as the "perfect guy" for the head coaching gig in Starkville.

“He’s done a really good job of just being himself," Rogers said at SEC Media Days. "Obviously, he had his own swagger and style that he brought with the defensive side of the ball, and I think he has brought that over to our whole team now. I think it’s a great thing for Arnett to be our head coach and he’s the perfect guy for Mississippi State.”

Entering the 2023 season, Rogers holds school records in career passing yards, completions and touchdowns, while also holding SEC records for for single season and career completions. It will be interesting to see how he will build off of that success with the new direction of the offense.

The Arnett era in Starkville officially kicks off on Sept. 2, when Mississippi State hosts Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on SEC Network.
