Mississippi State WR Marquez Dortch Enters The Transfer Portal

Mississippi State lost a wide receiver to the transfer portal this week.

Mississippi State's freshman wide receiver Marquez Dortch will enter the transfer portal, he announced on social media this week.

As a prospect, Dortch was a 4-Star recruit coming out of high school. As a wide receiver, he was ranked No. 33 nationally and No. 6 in the state of Mississippi in the class of 2022, according to 247 Sports.

Dortch originally committed to play for Ole Miss, where he was being recruited as a defensive back. However, he flipped his commitment to Mississippi State due to his desire to play as a wide receiver.

During the 2022 season, Dortch appeared in just one game, where he recorded a single reception for one yard in a 56-7 blowout victory over ETSU on November 19.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this ability to play this great game that I love the most," Dortch wrote in his statement. "I also want to thank the entire Mississippi State coaching staff for providing this opportunity as well as all of my teammates for believing in me."

Dortch's announcement comes as new Bulldog head coach Zach Arnett rehauls his coaching staff, moving away from the Air Raid offense that has been used under previous head coach Mike Leach for the past few years, instead opting for a more traditional offense under new offensive coordinator Kevin Barbay.

Dortch has four years of eligibility remaining. With his speed and agility, he will be a solid weapon that will likely be sought after by plenty of teams looking to add to their offense through the transfer portal.
