Former Bulldog Jeffery Simmons, Tennessee Titans Agree to Massive Four-Year Contract Extension

The former Bulldog will stay with the Titans for the long term.

NFL defensive lineman Jefferey Simmons has his future secured with the Tennessee Titans for the foreseeable future.

The Titans and Simmons have reportedly agreed on a four year contract extension over the weekend. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal is valued at over $94 million, including $66 million guaranteed and a $24 million signing bonus. Overall, Simmons is under contract for $104.75 million over five years, including his fifth year option, according to Ian Rapoport.

The new deal will make him the second highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL, behind Aaron Donald from the Los Angeles Rams, according to Mike Garafolo.

Simmons played for Mississippi State from 2016 to 2018, where he was twice named a First-Team All-SEC and was awarded the Conerly Trophy in 2018, an award given to the best college player in the state of Mississippi.

Simmons was drafted by the Titans in the first round, 19th overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was a part of a Titans' defensive line that led the league in rushing defense this past season, holding their opponents to an average of 76.9 yards per game.

As a NFL player, he was twice named a First-Team All-Pro and was selected to the Pro Bowl twice. He has recorded 189 tackles and 21 sacks across 56 games.

Simmons was entering the last year of his contract, but now it looks like he will be staying with the Titans for much longer as they look to improve on the woes from last season, when they finished with a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs.
