The Newest State to Sundays: Emmanuel Forbes

Mississippi State's first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has immediately impressed in OTAs.

The No. 16 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Emmanuel Forbes, has been impressing the Washington Commanders coaching staff with his versatility and natural defensive talents.

As the FBS record holder for the most career interceptions returned for touchdowns, Forbes was a standout player at Mississippi State. He was one of the best corners in the SEC during his tenure, which gave him plenty of first-round potential.

Forbes' size allows him to quickly move around the secondary of the defense, which his coaches have been highly impressed by. His natural ball-hunting skills were on display during the Commanders' OTAs, catching interceptions and batting down balls at a normal rate. He is on the smaller side, weighing 180 pounds, but that size allows his speed to stand out. For example, he ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Forbes has the ability to always make a play. If he gets the chance, don’t be surprised if he returns any of his picks for six points.
