The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and kept it until the eighth, when they gave up five runs in the one inning. Missouri lost their second game of the series to Purdue Fort Wayne with an identical score to the first game of the series.

The Mastodons helped out the Tigers in the top of the second. PFW’s Ben Higgens swung on two pitches that hit him, the last one resulting in a strikeout that kept a runner at third. It kept the score blank in the early innings

Thanks to back-to-back-to-back doubles from Trevor Austin, Jackson Lovich and Thomas Curry, Missouri was able to put up a four-run fourth to earn an early lead of 4-2. They padded their lead with two runs in the seventh and were able to hold onto the lead for most of the game.

Pimental racked up the Ks early in the game. Through his five innings, he put up seven strikeouts and held PFW to just two runs. Kerrick Jackson unfortunately took him out while he seemed to be in his groove to bring in Jacob Peaden.

Despite usually taking on the closer role for the Tiger, he wore different stripes in this game. Peaden came in to pitch long relief and to try to hold onto the Tiger’s lead. He wasn’t able to accomplish his goals, however, putting up two innings of work with six hits and four runs. The Mastodons got two home runs in the top of the eighth off of Peaden to take back the lead.

Missouri’s next two relievers didn’t help them out either. Nic Smith and Ben Pedersen combined for three more runs in the top of the eighth, to give up a total of five runs in the inning. After Pimental, the Tigers pitching didn’t record another strikeout until the top of the ninth. But it didn’t help much since they gave up yet another run to make the score identical to the day before.

This is the second game of the series that the Mastodons forced a comeback to win the game. In game one of the series, PFW took the lead in the top of the ninth with two home runs. In this game, the two home runs that gave up the Tiger’s lead came in the eighth.

While the Tigers were racking up runs early in the game, the Mastodons were held to just a few hits.

Missouri split their doubleheader against Purdue Fort Wayne. After a 9-7 loss in the first game, the Tigers came back to earn a 11-1 run-rule win for their first win against the Mastodons.

The Tigers Trevor Austin got the game started with a solo home run off of the scoreboard and followed it up with another home run in the next at-bat. The Tigers were able to load the bases in the second inning to bring in two runs to help the Tigers to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. After that, the Tigers put up another four runs in the seventh inning to add to their lead.

Carter Rustad had a great day. On the mound for the Tigers, Rustad threw five shutout innings and sent eight batters back to the dugout via strikeouts. His statline was only blemished by four hits, an unearned run and a hit by pitch through the six innings he tossed. He did not walk a single batter in his appearance.

To follow up Rustad’s impressive performance, Missouri handed the ball to Ryan Magdic in the seventh inning. Magdic quickly brought the Tigers up to bat with two strikeouts and a groundout. He succeeded with his relief, throwing for two scoreless innings to close the game.

Both teams had a little trouble fielding the ball, combining for five errors in the game. Three were committed by Purdue Fort Wayne and two were by Missouri. One of Missouri's errors resulted in the only run given up by the Tigers in the game. PFW gave up five unearned runs to Missouri.

Missouri’s record improves to 7-8 and Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 6-10. Missouri takes the field again to take on the Mastodons in their final game of the series on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m. CT.
