So, it's nothing against that league to the west. You know, the one in which the two biggest names are in the process of leaving for the Southeastern Conference. The Big 12 might be as good, or better, than any other other in terms of recent play and success on the court. But in terms of name power, the Atlantic Coast Conference is tough to beat.

Factor in that the ACC and SEC both have extensive broadcast agreements with ESPN, and one has to wonder what took so long in making the ACC/SEC Basketball Challenge a reality.

Regardless, the inaugural showdown between leagues will feature eight ranked teams on the men's side, and "just" three Final Four women's teams from last season.

One of the more intriguing matchups, and there a lot of them, is one of the first games on Tuesday night featuring Mizzou (5-2) at Pitt (5-1).  The schools are meeting for the first time in series history.
