Missouri men's basketball guard Kaleb Brown will miss the remainder of the season due to a stress reaction in his left shin.

“Kaleb was our most improved player this summer and to best protect his future, I made the difficult decision to have him redshirt this season due to his stress reaction,” Whitten family men’s basketball head coach Dennis Gates announced on Tuesday. “There was a chance he could have returned this year but in order to ensure his long-term development and eligibility, we thought it was important to avoid any risks and get back to 100 percent with his future as the top priority. We know that this will only be a small disruption in a great basketball career and look forward to him returning to full health at Mizzou.”

The junior only played the first two games of the young season (13 minutes total, and missed the third against SIU Edwardsville due to the shin injury and having flu-like symptoms.

Nevertheless, Brown looked to prove Gates right as the most improved player on the team heading into this season.

"I'm excited about what he's done, what he's able to do," head coach Dennis Gates said before the season started. "From a basketball standpoint, I've seen him make more shots from behind the arc, but having a positive assist-to-turnover ratio in practice and rebounding. I think it's all slowing down for him, and he's doing a great job."

His teammates were raving about him as well at SEC Media Days in Birmingham. The junior guard who is listed at 6-7, 245 pounds, was on pace to be a key contributor this season.

“Man, he’s just been playing really good basketball — facilitating the ball really well," graduate student forward Noah Carter said. 'He’s been shooting the ball really well. He’s been playing good basketball, just helping the team a lot.”
