Missouri football showed last week at Georgia that it's legit. Now it needs to try and keep pace with the No. 2 Bulldogs, and not lose any more ground in the SEC East.

Saturday afternoon, the No. 16 Tigers host No. 14 Tennessee, in the kind of showdown that a year from now would have huge playoff implications after it expands to 12 teams. Instead, it'll likely only mean which team finishes second in the division, but that still translates to bowl assignments in addition to bragging rights.

What: Tennessee (7-2 overall, 3-2 SEC) at Missouri (7-2, 3-2)

Where: Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium

When: Saturday, 2:30 p.m. CT

TV: CBS (play-by-play Brad Nessler; analyst Gary Danielson; sideline reporter Jenny Dell)

Series: Missouri leads 5-4. The Vols’ wins during Jeremy Pruitt’s tenure in 2019 and 2020 were vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions

Of Note:

Tennessee has won the last four meetings on the field, and the Vols own a 3-2 on-field record in Columbia. In their last trip, they beat the Tigers, 62-24, in Josh Heupel’s first season. UT piled up 458 yards on the ground.

It’s the first time that both teams are ranked at the time of the meeting.

This is the second time this season that Missouri is facing back-to-back ranked opponents. It rebounded from a 49-39 loss to then to No. 23-LSU by defeating Kentucky, 38-21.

Saturday represents the first of back-to-back games vs. top 15 opponents for Tennessee, which hosts Georgia on Nov. 18. The teams have faced each other every year since 2012 but will not play next regular season.

Missouri fans are being encouraged to wear black.
