The Missouri football team announced on Tuesday that the annual Black and Gold Spring Game will be on March 16 at 1 p.m. CT at Faurot Field for free admission.

At the beginning of this past season, the Tigers were nowhere near the consensus radar of College Football Playoff contenders, let alone an appearance in the top 25. However, they finished with an 11-2 record, their best since 2014, and ended the season with a No. 8 overall rank in the polls after a Cotton Bowl victory over Ohio State.

Several Mizzou players and coaches stood out in creating what many in the college football world call the most surprising team in college football this past season, as they were nominated/won awards. Additionally, eight players were recently invited to the upcoming NFL Combine.

What was once considered a near impossibility at the start of last season is now somewhat of an expectation for 2024, as the Tigers have a shot at making the College Football Playoff's new 12-team format.

Missouri is also aiming for an SEC Championship next season, but even if it doesn't make that game, it'll still have a shot to qualify for the CFP after Tuesday's unanimous 5-7 format approval.
