Mizzou football's quarterback room for the 2024 season has become slightly thinner. According to PowerMizzou, sophomore quarterback/pitcher Sam Horn will be undergoing Tommy John surgery and will be out for the next 12-15 months.

Horn entered Mizzou as a four-star prospect in the recruiting class of 2022 and would redshirt for the 2022 season before becoming Mizzou's primary backup in the 2023 season. Horn appeared in three games in 2023, including in the second half of the season opener against South Dakota where he went three-for-five on passing attempts for 54 yards.

Mizzou's quarterback room experienced two losses already this offseason with Jake Garcia transferring to East Carolina after just one season in Missouri where he competed for the starting job with Horn and Cook in the fall but failed to see the field.  Gabarri Johnson transferred to Oregon State after his freshman year at Missouri.

This leaves starter Brady Cook and incoming freshman Aidan Glover as the only two scholarship quarterbacks on the Mizzou roster. Cook, set to enter his third year as Mizzou's starter, threw for 3,317 yards and 21 touchdowns in the 2023 season. If Cook were to suffer an injury in 2024, Glover would become the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Mizzou since Drew Lock in 2015.

Mizzou football will likely look to the transfer portal to add more depth to the quarterback room for the 2024 season. Spring football practices will begin in the coming weeks with the Spring Game set. for Saturday, March 16.
