Mizzou Running Back Cody Schrader Lands National Honor
Missouri football senior running back Cody Schrader was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week on Tuesday for his stellar performance against Tennessee last week.
Schrader rushed for 205 yards and had 116 receiving yards in a 36-7 home thumping of the Volunteers.
Prior to Saturday, no Southeastern Conference player had ever recorded a 200-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game. Moreover, he was the first player in Missouri history to have a 100-yard rushing and receiving game.
The 5-9, 214-pound graduate from St. Louis, Mo., is the 10th player in Division I FBS history with 200 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game and the third player to do it against an AP-ranked opponent.
A walk-on transfer from Division II Truman State, Schrader carried the ball 35 times, scored one touchdown, and caught five passes on the afternoon, including a career-long 43-yard gain. In the process, he topped 1,000 rushing yards for the season (1,124) with two regular-season games remaining.
Last week, Schrader was named a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. The finalists will be named Dec. 4.
Meanwhile, Schrader's blockers received some recognition as well, as the offensive line was named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2023 Joe Moore Award.
The twelve semifinalists include (in alphabetical order): No. 4 Florida State, No. 1 Georgia, No. 23 Kansas State, No. 15 LSU, No. 2 Michigan, No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 6 Oregon, No. 10 Oregon State, No. 21 Tennessee, No. 7 Texas, and No. 5 Washington.
Also on Tuesday, the Frank Broyles Award announced that Tigers offensive coordinator Kirby Moore is one of 57 nominees for this year's assistant coach of the year honor.
No. 11 Mizzou hosts Florida on Saturday.
