Nebraska baseball has officially clinched the first league series of the 2024 campaign.

NU beat Northwestern 9-5 Saturday afternoon in Evanston, Illinois. The Huskers
(19-5, 2-0 Big Ten) have now won nine consecutive games. Northwestern falls to 10-14 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

It was early offense that put Nebraska up for good. Trailing 2-1 after the first inning, the Big Red exploded for seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. The inning was capped by Josh Caron's lone hit of the day, a grand slam.

Cole Evans led the Huskers with a 3-for-3 performance, hitting a home run and driving in three runs.

Will Walsh earned the win, pitching 3.1 innings in relief. Walsh gave up three runs, two of them earned, on five hits. Casey Dais pitched a spotless ninth inning to slam the door.

The series concludes Sunday at noon CDT at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.
