Cruise control was all that was needed out of Nebraska women's basketball Sunday afternoon.

Nebraska improved to 9-2 with a 76-51 win over Southern at Pinnacle Bank Arena. NU is 8-2 in the nonconference with one more go.

The Huskers began the game with a 6-0 run while putting the Jaguars into tough situations with turnovers and fouls. The lead swelled to 13 points at the end of the first quarter and grew to as much 32.

Southern's 51 points narrowly outpaced their combined turnovers and fouls: 45. The Jaguars did not have more points than turnovers and fouls until early in the fourth quarter.

Alexis Markowski scored a game-high 21 points. Her 18th point of the game gave her 1,000 for her career, making her the 38th Husker to reach that milestone.

Jaz Shelley (15) and Logan Nissley (14) also reached double-figure scoring.

Nebraska closes the non-con slate Wednesday at Kansas.
