The Nebraska Cornhuskers finally received their seeding on selection Sunday for their March Madness bid that they very much expected. Although it’s could have been a better seeding, just to get a bid into the big dance was key.

The Huskers received the No. 8 seed in the South region. The region is headlined by a very tough Houston Cougars squad that has been a clear-cut No. 1 seed for quite some time.

Nebraska is set to take on a fairly tough Texas A&M team that is the No. 9 seed. The Aggies have key wins in the SEC including a victory over Midwest region No. 2 seed Tennessee, which at one point was a potential No. 1 seed.

Below is the full first-round bracket for the South region.

  • (1) Houston vs (16) Longwood
  • (8) Nebraska vs (9) Texas A&M
  • (5) Wisconsin vs (12) James Madison
  • (4) Duke vs (13) Vermont
  • (6) Texas Tech vs (11) NC State
  • (3) Kentucky vs (14) Oakland
  • (7) Florida vs (10) Boise State/Colorado
  • (2) Marquette vs (15) Western Kentucky

The Huskers are a well-rounded offensive squad led by star guard and standout three-point threat Keisei Tominaga. He averages 14.9 points per game, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

Texas A&M is led by elite guard Wade Taylor IV. He is electric in scoring with an average of 18.9 points per game.

The game is set to be played Friday in Memphis, Tennessee, and the winner will take on the Houston-Longwood next Sunday.

The Good: The bid itself!

The Bad: Had hoped for a higher seed.

The Ugly: Likely matched up with a No. 1 seed in round two.
