Nebraska Fall Camp Practice No. 4: News and Quotes

Huskers aim to set the tone with a physical running game
In this story:

A powerful running game. It was a Husker staple for decades, and getting it re-established was a focus of discussion after Thursday morning's Nebraska football practice.

Position coach E.J. Barthel spoke of instilling a "lion mentality" in the running backs. "Lion's going to hunt. If he doesn't kill, he doesn't eat. That's the reality of how we want to run the football. Everything we do needs to be with physical intent."

Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield indicated several backs are likely to share the load in the run game.

“The preference is to have Bo Jackson, but you know there’s not a lot of Bo Jacksons out there. So we've got a room full of really talented guys that do a lot of different things. ... It's going to take more than just one this year for us to be successful.”

Thursday's practice was the fourth of preseason camp and the first in full pads. Also speaking to the media were running backs Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson, center Ben Scott, and tight end Nate Boerkircher.
