Knee Injury Sidelines Maverick Noonan for Season

Eight practices into preseason camp, Huskers also dinged up at wide receiver
In this story:

Freshman Jack linebacker Maverick Noonan will miss the 2023 season after injuring a knee, Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule said after Tuesday's practice.

The good news is that it wasn't an ACL injury, and Noonan should return in six months and "be as good as new," Rhule said.

The Huskers are thin at wide receiver at the moment. Marcus Washington, recently back to full practice after breaking a bone in his hand, will miss a few days after landing awkwardly during a drill, Rhule said. Also unavailable for practice Tuesday were wideouts Zavier Betts and Malachi Coleman.

"There’s a lot of opportunities for other guys to step up and play," Rhule said.
