Greg Sharpe, the voice of the Nebraska Huskers, revealed his cancer diagnosis Monday night.

He disclosed the news on "Sports Nightly," the weeknight show he hosts with Jessica Coody on the Huskers Radio Network.

The exact diagnosis wasn’t specified, but he said it involved the "pancreatic region of the body."

Sharpe has been the play-by-play voice for Husker football since 2008. He also does play-by-play for the baseball program, which is why he decided the share the news so soon. The course of his treatment could interfere with the baseball schedule and he didn’t want people to start asking questions.

After breaking the news to Husker fans, Sharpe said he has one goal in mind.

"I want to get this thing, whup its butt and get myself ready for football because I think we are going to have a fabulous, fabulous football season around here in the fall," Sharpe said.
