Groundhog Day has passed. The Class of '24 signing date is this week. Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Spring is in the air.

It's also that time of year when I ask fans what they think of the current state of Husker football.

The following is a list of topics for you to opine on.

Matt Rhule

Last year, NU entered November with a 5-3 record, needing only one win to be bowl eligible. But instead of going bowling, NU went 0-4 in the final month.

  1. Were you disappointed with the record?
  2. How would you rate head coach Matt Rhule's performance going into Year Two?

Husker assistant coaches

How would you rate Rhule's staff?

  1. Tony White (DC)
  2. Marcus Satterfield (OC)
  3. E.J. Barthel (RB)
  4. Josh Martin (TE)
  5. Donovan Raiola (OL)
  6. Garret McGuire (Receivers)
  7. Terrance Knighton (DL)
  8. Rob Dvoracek (LB)
  9. Evan Cooper (DB)
  10. Ed Foley (Special Teams)

Newly hired assistant Glenn Thomas (QBs and co-OC)

  1. What do you think of his hiring?
  2. Who do you think will benefit the most by the hire?
  3. Will naming him the co-offensive coordinator cause any friction between him and Satterfield?

Quarterback room

  1. How confident are you that Nebraska will have a QB in '24 capable of playing winning football? Right now, there are only three scholarship players in the Husker QB room: freshman Dylan Raiola, freshman Danny Kaelin and junior Heinrich Haarberg. Only one (Haarberg) has started a college football game.
  2. Do you think Matt Rhule will get another QB via the transfer portal?
  3. Do you think he should?
  4. Do you think Chubba Purdy should have stayed at Nebraska instead of transferring to Nevada, a school that last year went 2-10?

Running backs

  1. How good will the RB room be this fall?

Offensive line

  1. Will the Husker O-line be good enough to provide protection for the QBs and open holes for backs to run through?

Receiving corps

  1. Do you think NU will have a potent passing game this fall?
  2. Does NU have enough wide receivers to be strong in that department?

Defense

Tony White's defense made a huge improvement in his first year as the DC.

  1. Do you think this year's defense will be better than last year's?
  2. If so, why? And if not, why?

Special teams

Special teams play under Ed Foley showed improvement last year.

  1. What other improvements would you like to see this year?

Play calling

  1. What did you think of last year's offensive play calling by the Husker staff?
  2. What changes would you like to see this fall?

Transfer portal and NIL

  1. What are your thoughts on the two biggest changes in college football: the transfer portal and NIL?
  2. What changes would you like to see implemented to those two programs?

The expanded B1G

This fall, the Big Ten Conference will include four new teams, increasing the conference total to 18.

  1. What impact will the new teams (Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA from the Pac-12) have on the conference?
  2. What impact will those teams have on Nebraska sports?

Spring Game kickoff time

The Husker Spring Game start time has been moved from the traditional afternoon kickoff to 11 a.m. The reason for the change is so Husker football fans will be able to attend the Husker baseball and softball games later that day.

  1. Do you think this is a good move?
  2. If you plan to attend the Spring Game, how likely would you attend either of those other games?

Husker QB starter

  1. Who do you think will be the Husker starting QB for the UTEP opening football game?
  2. Why do you think so?

2024 win total

  1. How many games will NU win this fall?
  2. What is your reasoning for your total?

College bowl games

Last season, there were 43 bowl games.

  1. Do you think there should be more or fewer bowl games?
  2. What do you think of the CFP expanding the number of its playoff teams from four to 12 in 2024?

United Football League

The new pro football league is scheduled to open play March 30. Former Husker Adrian Martinez will be the probable starter at quarterback for the Birmingham Stallions.

  1. How likely are you to watch any or all of those games?
  2. Would you be apt to watch if there were more former Husker players in the league? (Right now there are about five or six on UFL rosters.)

When you respond, be sure to include your name and town. Your first name is fine, but if you can, include your last name as well. I'll post the best responses in a future column. Remember, name and town if you want a response.

How ’Bout Them Huskers

This week's topics include Husker men's basketball's amazing comeback win over No. 6 Wisconsin. We also talk about the Husker softball team's season opener this Thursday night vs. Washington in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Can't wait to see Jordy Bahl pitching and batting for the Scarlet and Cream. We also give our picks on Sunday's Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
