Nebraska Wants More Than Just Bowl Eligibility

Matt Rhule might have a way to motivate his team.

In this story:

Nebraska could clinch a bowl spot this Saturday when it travels to East Lansing, Michigan to take on the Michigan State Spartans. NU is listed as a three point favorite.

If the Huskers win the game they'll have six wins for the year. If so, should the Huskers take a siesta?

Nada. As in not a chance.

Why? Isn't going to a bowl game a great accomplishment?

Indeed it would be.

So what can Coach Rhule do to help his team stay motivated?

Consider this: all five Husker wins have come against teams with a combined record of 16-25. That's a winning rate of just 39%.

If Nebraska eases up in the final three games, it will mean they backed into bowl contention. Rhule isn't going to allow that to happen.

I'll bet my lunch money Coach Rhule is going to challenge his team to keep grinding, scratching and clawing the rest of the season. Maybe his team can get seven, eight or even more wins. Wouldn't that be something!

But keep in mind, the final three games are not going to be easy. After Saturday's game with MSU, all the remaining Husker opponents have winning records: Maryland (5-3), @Wisconsin (5-3) and at home with Iowa (6-2).

If Nebraska can beat MSU this Saturday and eke out a win or two over the next three opponents, NU will have accomplished more than most people could have imagined.
