Injuries May Force Change in Spring Game’s Format

Offense vs. defense a possibility in Huskers’ spring finale Saturday

The format of Saturday's Nebraska football spring game is still being determined.

Coach Scott Frost said after Monday's practice that he'd prefer the traditional full two-team format of Reds vs. Whites, but that might not be doable because of injuries. A possible alternative would be an offense-vs.-defense setup similar to what was used in the 2014 and 2016 games.

Regardless of the game's format, "a lot of the stuff we're doing now isn't on tape, so we certainly don't want to show many of our cards. But ... guys are going to want to compete and run the plays, and defenses are going to want to work, so we'll find a balance."

As for the team's overall progress, Frost said: "We've gotten a lot better at a lot of things. There's still some things I'm not happy with that need to get cleaned up. That's spring ball in a nutshell."

The offense didn't have one of its better days Monday, he said. "We just need to execute a little bit better. We're doing some simple things a lot better," he said.
