Strong defense, reliable special teams, an emerging quarterback in Heinrich Haarberg and low penalties added up to a strong first win for Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule. The slow rebuild of the Matt Rhule era took a positive step with a Northern Illinois football team that has shown it can be dangerous.
