Mickey Joseph Tweaks Coaching Duties on Defensive Side

With Oklahoma game four days away, Joseph holds first press conference as Nebraska’s interim head coach

Mickey Joseph has changed up some coaching responsibilities on the defensive side of the football and says Nebraska's players have handled the last 48 hours "like champs."

Joseph spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since he became interim head coach after the firing Sunday of Scott Frost.

Erik Chinander remains defensive coordinator but now will also coach the safeties, while Travis Fisher is now in charge of the cornerbacks and nickels.

Also, Mike Cassano moves up from offensive analyst to coach the wide receivers, Joseph's position group, on an interim basis.

“Cass is gonna handle that, the day-to-day operations, but I'll still be involved with it,” Joseph said.

When asked about being Nebraska's first black head coach, Joseph said, "It's about Nebraska football. It's bigger than me. I haven't really thought about that. I'm more concerned about the boys and getting the boys ready to play on Saturday."

The Huskers take former conference rival Oklahoma at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday in Lincoln.

Joseph touched on a number of other topics during his 18 minutes with reporters. Refresh this page to see the latest additions to the coverage links below. Asterisk indicates item may require a subscription. Go here for the HuskerMax discussion.
