Nico Ottomanelli Hopes to Join Long List of Legendary Nebraska Kickers
Nico Ottomanelli is a kicker for the University of Nebraska. From Harrington Park in New Jersey, he is entering his freshman season and has high expectations for himself. He weighs 175 pounds at 6-foot-2, according to Huskers.com.
He spoke with HuskerMax about the decision to join Nebraska and more.
“Everything about Nebraska is special,” he said. “Every single coach is dedicated to winning and making each player better each day. They also make you feel like you are a part of the family. From the first time I stepped on campus, it felt like home. The new facilities are second to none and they will allow me to become my best self. Also, the academic support for athletes at the school is immaculate and will help me become a better student while achieving my athletic goals.”
He talked about expectations.
“My expectations for my time at Nebraska are to just become the best player that I can possibly be and do everything in my power to help the team win games. I am a competitor and I love to win, so however I can help the team be better, I will do that.”
“I see that this team with this coaching staff is full of winners and people who love to compete. I also see that this team has special talent and hard workers. I truly believe that everyone on the team will give their all each day to get themselves and the team better.”
He talked about his relationship with this staff, including special teams coordinator Ed Foley and running backs coach E.J. Barthel.
“I am closest with Coach Foley and Coach Barthel. Coach Barthel has been a part of my recruiting process for a couple of years, and Coach Foley is my position coach and who I will spend the most time with.”
Ottomanelli had a key statement about contributing that should get any Cornhusker fan fired up.
“I will contribute however I can. Whether that is helping the team get better in practice or actually playing. I will do anything I can to help the team win. I always try to be a leader and get others better as well. There are lots of great leaders on the team that I look forward to learning from, and I hope to eventually be one myself.”
“I set big goals for myself every year and work as hard as I possibly can to reach them no matter how crazy the goals are or how hard I have to work. I hope to join the long list of great kickers that have played at Nebraska.”
