Analysis + Evaluation: Edge Rusher Anto Saka
On July 17th, 2021, DE/LB prospect Anto Saka chose to play his college ball for Northwestern, over the likes of USC and Penn State, and this decision has helped bolster an impressive 2022 class.
Saka is a four-star, speedy player who is expected to be an edge rusher at the collegiate level. He stands at 6' 2" and weighs in at 230 pounds, which is a figure that should be helpful as a rover between the defensive line and the linebacker corps.
What stands out about Saka as a player is his speed, which allows him to catch up to receivers and running backs downfield, as well as get past overmatched offensive lineman and put intense pressure on the opposing quarterback.
Saka often drew multiple blockers in high school, allowing for mismatches on the other sides of the line. He also seemed to make quick work of those double teams, which shows his ability to overcome adversity on the gridiron and make the play.
Before Saka will suit up for the Wildcats, he is set to play his senior year of high school at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, MD. After finishing out high school and heading to Evanston, it will be interesting to see if he will push for a roster spot in the near future.
