The Cleveland Browns selected cornerback Greg Newsome II in the First Round of the 2021 NFL Draft (26th overall).

On Saturday, Newsome put pen to paper and made it official. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Newsome has agreed to a four-year deal with a fifth-year club option. The rookie contract is worth $12.748 million, including a $6.631 million signing bonus when rookies report to Berea for training camp.

In 2020, the former Wildcat was a first-team All-Big 10 and second team All-American (Phil Steele and Football Writer Association of America) selection. In 2020, Newsome led the Big Ten with 10 pass break-ups, including one interception, and also recorded 12 tackles. Newsome also ranked first among Big Ten cornerbacks for completion percentage allowed at 31.6%(12-of-38 targets).

Newsome suffered a lower body injury during the Big Ten Championship game in December, and did not return to play. Newsome declared for the 2021 NFL Draft following that game, and did not play in the 2021 Citrus Bowl.

Returning players report to Browns training camp on Tuesday. The first full-team practice will be held Wednesday. Up to 2,000 fans will be able to attend and watch practice on Friday.
