Tyler Uberstine Drafted by Boston Red Sox
Northwestern RHP Tyler Uberstine was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 19th Round (556th overall) in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
In his redshirt-junior season in 2021, Uberstine pitched 39.2 innings and recorded a 5.90 ERA. The 6'1", 200 pound RHP pitched four scoreless innings against Penn State (3/6) and recorded a career-high eight strikeouts against Rutgers (4/10).
The Red Sox will retain the rights to sign Uberstine until August 1st, or until he elects to return to Northwestern or another four-year college on a full-time basis.
Per Major League Baseball's first-year player draft rules, "a player who is drafted and does not sign with the Club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year's Draft, so long as the player is eligible for that year's Draft. A Club may not select a player again in a subsequent year, unless the player has consented to the re-selection."
