It's a Wildcat Reunion at SoFi
When the Los Angeles Rams hosted their neighbors last night, the Los Angeles Chargers, in their first preseason game of the year, there were a handful of Wildcats on the field. Along with the three Charger teammates of Rashawn Slater, Joe Gaziano and Justin Jackson, fellow Northwestern alumni and current Ram, Earnest Brown IV, also saw the field. The Chargers were able to hold off the Rams, 13-6, in beautiful SoFi Stadium in front of fans for the first time.
Slater was magnificent in his debut, as he allowed zero pressures in 21 snaps. Slater went up against former Wildcat teammate Earnest Brown IV for a handful of snaps and mostly got the best of him. Those two know each other very well, going back to their days battling against one another in practice in Evanston. Brown recorded one tackle in limited action.
Justin Jackson carried the ball five times for 13 yards, along with one catch for nine yards, as he looks to cement his status as the number two running back behind starter Austin Ekeler. Unfortunately Jackson left last night's game with a groin injury, but it is believed to not be too serious.
On the defensive side of the ball, Gaziano flashed a couple times on the defensive line. He recorded one tackle for loss and followed that up by getting pressure on the quarterback to help force a punt. It was a solid outing for Gaziano, who is battling for a roster spot and hoping to be a part of the Charger's defensive line rotation this season.
