Hannah Hidalgo Earns National Honors For Notre Dame Women's Basketball

The Notre Dame freshman is off to a hot start to her career through four games

Hannah Hidalgo’s career is off to a flying start. The freshman Notre Dame women’s basketball player continues to rack up awards in the early stages of her career. Hidalgo started with week by being named the ACC Rookie of the Week and ACC Player of the Week and on Tuesday the Fighting Irish point guard earned national honors when she was named the USBWA National Freshman of the Week.

Hildalgo is just the second Notre Dame player to earn ACC Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week honors in the same week. Brianna Turner was the first to do it in January 2015. She also became the first ACC plyer to sweep the weekly honors since Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson did it on Jan. 2 last season.

The freshman from Haddonfield, NJ has scored no fewer than 21 points in each of the first four games to start her career. She scored a Notre Dame freshman record 31 points in her debut game against South Carolina in Paris, France two weeks ago and then followed that with a school-record tying 12 steals with 26 points six days later in her home state of New Jersey against NJIT.

In her two games last week, Hidalgo had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals in a 110-52 home win over Northwestern. She followed that with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals in a 79-68 win over Illinois in Washington, DC in the Citi Shamrock Classic.

Hidalgo has 27 steals through her first four games, the most by any Division I player in that time span in the last 25 years. She is averaging 25.5 points and 5.3 rebounds, while also hitting 8 of her 16 3-point attempts through Notre Dame’s first four games.
