The college basketball season just started this week and first year Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry has already arrived at his first signing day as well. After cobbling together a top-30 class after he was named Irish head coach last spring, Shrewsberry moved the needle farther with the announcement of a top-20 class on Wednesday.

Notre Dame’s three-man class of swingman Sir Mohammed, guard Cole Certa and forward Garrett Sundra ranks as the No. 19 group in the nation in the 2024 cycle.

“All three of these young men are not only tremendous basketball players, as evidenced by the fact that this is ranked as one of the top recruiting classes not only in the ACC, but in the country as well, but they are also excellent students who fit the mission and the culture of Notre Dame,” Shrewsberry said on Wednesday.

Mohammed comes in as the No. 42 recruit in the class per 247, which makes Notre Dame’s highest rated signee in the last decade. The versatile 6-6 guard in the son of former Kentucky star and 18-year NBA veteran Nazr Muhammed.

"From the moment I saw Sir during his sophomore season, I knew he was someone that we had to get,” Shrewsberry said. "The first thing I look for in a player is intelligence on the court, and no one has a better feel for the game than Sir does. He can play point guard at 6-foot-6 and is also a gifted scorer as well as someone who will defend. His father, Nazr, was a long time NBA player and a current executive in the league, and his mother, Mandi, has been around the game her whole life, and is a coach as well on the youth level. They have instilled a work ethic in Sir that is unmatched.”

Certa is ranked as the No. 74 player in the class by 247 and No. 89 by ESPN. The 6-5 guard from Le Roy, Ill is playing at IMG Academy in Florida to finish his high school career.

"Cole is a young man who we began recruiting before we even got to Notre Dame,” Shrewsberry began. "Once we arrived in South Bend, we knew Cole was a must get recruit. In my mind he is the best shooter in the entire country, but he can do more than just shoot. Cole is also a tremendous passer, has good size for his position, and is someone who knows how to play. Add in that he has been very well coached by Mike Mullins with the Illinois Wolves, and now by Sean McAloon at IMG Academy.”

Sundra is the first scholarship men’s basketball player from the Commonwealth of Virginia. The 6-11 forward is a Top 100 player, per ESPN.

"Garrett is someone who has stood out when matched up against the best of the best in the country,” Shrewsberry noted. "Being 6-foot-11, Garrett is a tall player, but he is not a traditional back to the basket only scorer. He has the skill and IQ to play on the perimeter, as well as possessing the ability to score down low. As he gets stronger under the guidance of our strength coach, Greg Miskins, the sky’s the limit for the impact Garrett can make for our program.”

The three-man class is ranked as the No. 5 class in the ACC for 2024 according to 247.
