Notre Dame Women's Basketball Drops Two Spots To No. 10 In Coaches Poll

The Fighting Irish remain in the top 10, but are now the second-highest ranked of six ACC teams in the top 25

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team fell two spots to No. 10 in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll. The Fighting Irish (18-4, 9-3 ACC) drop for a second consecutive week after Sunday’s 57-52 home loss to Duke.

Defending national champion South Carolina (23-0) continues to hold the top spot in the poll after a non-conference win over UConn on Sunday. There is movement in the poll behind the Gamecocks though.

LSU (23-0) moves up one spot to No. 2 this week. Last week’s No. 2, Stanford (22-3), falls three spots to No. 5 after being upset by Washington last week. Indiana (22-1) is up two spots at No. 3, with UConn (21-3) rounding out the top five.

No. 6 Iowa (19-4) and No. 7 Utah (21-2) remain unchanged this week. Maryland (19-5) climbs a spot to No. 8 and Virginia Tech (19-4) leapfrogged the Irish by moving up two spots to No. 9.

South Carolina again received the maximum 800 points, including all 32 first place votes, this week. LSU picked up 754 points, Indiana received 704, UConn got 697, and Stanford has 670 points.

Duke (20-3) is up four spots to No. 11 after its upset of the Fighting Irish. Three other ACC teams check in this week’s Coaches Poll, with North Carolina (17-6) at No. 16, NC State (16-7) is No. 20 and Florida State (20-5) is No. 24.

All four of Notre Dame’s losses this season are to ranked teams (Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, and Duke). They also have wins over No. 4 UConn and No. 9 Virginia tech.

The Fighting Irish host Pittsburgh this Thursday night and Syracuse on Sunday.
