Notre Dame Women's Basketball Ranked No. 10 In Coaches Poll

The Fighting Irish hold in place this week in a stagnant top 10

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team is still ranked No. 10 in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll. The Fighting Irish (22-4, 13-3 ACC) hold at No. 10 for a third consecutive week after picking up a pair of wins last week.

In fact, seven of the top 10 teams in this week’s poll have the same ranking as last week. Defending national champion South Carolina (27-0) has held the No. 1 spot in the poll for the entirety of the season. Indiana (26-1) and Stanford (26-3) and LSU (25-1) are No. 2 and 3 and 4, respectively, for the second week in a row.

The only movement in the top 10 was caused by Utah (23-3) losing to Arizona last week. The loss dropped the Utes from No. 5 to 7 and allowed UConn (24-4) to move up to No. 5 and Iowa (22-5) to bump up to No. 6.

Maryland (22-5) is No. 8, followed by Virginia Tech (22-4) and Notre Dame to round out the top 10.

For the first time since the preseason poll was released, South Carolina failed to receive all 800 possible points in the poll. The Gamecocks received 799, with Indiana picking up one vote and a total of 768 points. Stanford has 726, LSU 698, and UConn received 654. Notre Dame has 525, which is up 12 points from last week.

Other ACC teams in the poll included Duke (23-4), which checks in at No. 12. The Blue Devils dropped one spot after losing to Virginia Tech last week. North Carolina (19-8) is No. 21. NC State fell out of the top 25 this week. The Wolfpack has lost four of its last six games since upsetting Notre Dame late last month. Florida State is not ranked but received 42 votes (NC State received 46).

Three of Notre Dame’s four losses this season are to ranked teams (Maryland, North Carolina and Duke). Their other loss is to NC State. The Fighting Irish also have wins over No. 5 UConn and No. 9 Virginia Tech.

The Fighting Irish host Georgia Tech this Thursday night and travel to Louisville to close the regular on Sunday.
