Notre Dame in NFL: Sam Hartman Seems Headed Towards Washington Commanders Practice Squad

Hartman returned to the practice field but did not play in Commanders preseason finale Sunday

The Washington Commanders preseason finale has come and gone and quarterback Sam Hartman did not play in it.

The Commanders closed out the NFL preseason with a 20-10 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday night but Hartman, who suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason opener against the New York Jets, again did not play.

Hartman had returned to practice this past Friday for the first time since injuring his shoulder in that game against the Jets on August 10.

With Hartman being forced to miss two of the three preseason games it's very difficult to see him making the Washington Commanders roster.

Now who the Commanders decide to keep on the practice squad remains to be seen.

Rookie Jayden Daniels will be the starting quarterback while veteran and former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota will be the backup.

That leaves Hartman in a competition with veterans Jeff Driskell and Trace McSorely to who earns that practice quarterback spot as it would be unlikely Washington keeps three active quarterbacks rostered.
