Alabama Hires Tommy Rees As Its New Offensive Coordinator
Irish Breakdown has been informed that Notre Dame will be looking for a new offensive coordinator now that Alabama has hired former Irish coordinator Tommy Rees.
Rees spent the last three years as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator and the last six years as the team's quarterbacks coach. The Irish went 31-8 in Rees' three years in charge of the offense. It was an up-and-down unit at times but there was a lot of promise.
Alabama is looking to replace Bill O'Brien, who left Tuscaloosa to take the same position with the New England Patriots.
With Rees gone, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman will get a chance to completely overhaul the offensive staff in about a year's time. The 2022 staff was all brand new outside of Rees. With Rees gone, Freeman will now have a chance to completely remake the staff in the way he wants. Once this hire is made the Notre Dame coaching staff will be made up of nine of 10 assistants that weren't on the staff prior to Freeman becoming the defensive coordinator.
