Former Notre Dame Star Ronnie Stanley Named NFL's 4th Best Offensive Tackle
During the tenure of former line coach Harry Hiestand, Notre Dame developed a reputation of putting out strong offensive lines and high draft picks at the position. Even more important, those players are going onto the NFL and developing into standouts.
Former Notre Dame All-American Ronnie Stanley was the No. 6 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was a solid starter for three seasons, but in year four the Las Vegas native developed into one of the NFL's best offensive tackles. Heading into the 2020 season he was ranked by ESPN as the fourth best tackle in the league.
Here's a piece of the analysis from ESPN:
"Stanley is a bit of an acquired taste. Those who love him really love him, resulting in multiple first-place votes. He's an anchor for the league's best rushing attack, has ideal traits for pass blocking and is about to get seriously paid."
Stanley was named a first team All-Pro following the 2019 season, and was also named the best pass blocking tackle in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.
Stanley was joined on the first team by two other former Notre Dame standouts. Quenton Nelson and Zack Martin, two former Irish teammates of Stanley, were named the first team guards. Nelson (No. 1) and Martin (No. 2) were named the two best guards in the NFL by ESPN.
